Coffee of the Week: Heart Colombia Decaf San Agustin

June 19, 2026

Bonus review!

Indeed, well into the evening I was working on a project and began to want coffee. Thankfully I had a recent Fellow Drop to reach for: Colombia San Agustin decaf by Heart Coffee Roasters out of Portland.

This is a solid offering from the Huila region, which could singlehandedly debunk the notion that decaf is automatically an inferior product. This coffee holds its own with full octane specialty roasts, continuing a pattern of exceptional experiences with Heart. Even with the bag having been open for two months, I still perceive a touch of acidity rounded out by a pleasant richness. This tracks with the label’s suggestion the presence of fig, milk chocolate, and toffee tasting notes. Though it’s been some time since my first impression, I do remember being very pleased with the fresh bag. I’ve now only a few cups remaining from this bag; I’ll be looking forward to trying more Heart decaf later in my pursuit of flavor. I’d like to let some time go by and possibly update this article with a renewed first impression.

Recipe:
This cup was brewed with my Aeropress. My go-to Aeropress ratio lately has been 1:20 coffee to water (e.g. 15g coffee -> 300g water). My water temp for this particular brew was 207 degrees F. From there I loosely follow the Hoffmann Aeropress technique: wait 2 and a half minutes, then jostle the apparatus a bit to loosen up the grounds. Wait thirty more seconds, then press! Then discard (or compost!) the spent coffee grounds.

Anyway, it’s 11 PM and I’m drinking coffee. This is a short one; I doth return my attention to my project while I remain conscious.
